In Victoria, microchipping is a legal requirement for cats and dogs before they are sold or when they are registered with council - and it is one of the kindest things you can do for your pet.
How it works
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and sits just under the skin between the shoulder blades. It is inserted quickly with a needle, much like a vaccination, and no anaesthetic is needed. Each chip has a unique number linked to your contact details on a national registry.
