Out of Hours Veterinary Support

Animal emergencies are frightening, and they rarely happen at a convenient time.

Our regular clinic hours are Monday to Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 12:00pm, closed Sunday.

Outside these hours, our own team is not available to attend emergencies - but we want you to get help fast, so here is exactly who to call.

Companion Animal Emergencies

For dogs, cats and other pets, call Geelong Animal Referral Services on (03) 4219 2169. They provide emergency veterinary care for companion animals when we are closed.

Horse Emergencies

For equine emergencies, call Ballarat Equine on (03) 5334 6756.

Cattle and Sheep Emergencies

If you are ever unsure who to call, phone our clinic number and leave a clear message with your name and number, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Wildlife and Stray Animals

If your call is about injured or distressed wildlife, contact Wildlife Victoria on 03 8400 7300.

If you have found a stray animal, contact Ararat Rural City Council on (03) 5355 0200.

Is it an Emergency?

Whichever number you call, it helps to know what usually needs urgent attention. Situations that call for an emergency vet include:

Difficulty breathing, collapse or seizures
Suspected snake bite or poisoning
Bloating, a swollen abdomen or repeated unproductive vomiting or retching
Serious injury, heavy bleeding or a suspected broken bone
Straining to urinate, especially in male cats
Difficulty giving birth (whelping, lambing, calving or foaling)
Any animal in obvious severe pain or distress
